Tissue paper pom poms tutorial

March 23, Last Friday I showed some pictures of the baby shower my friend and I threw and I had lots of emails asking how we made the tissue paper pom poms hanging above the buffet table. I LOVE decorating with these pom-poms whether it is for a party or in my house. I love them because tissue paper is cheap, comes in so many colors, and because they are so big they really make an impact.

Place the ball in the middle of one sheet of tissue paper: Wrap the ball with the tissue paper, like a candy, leaving enough space for the ball to pop out when you are done: Twist the tissue paper as tight as you can against the ball so it will keep its form when you pop the ball out: Repeat this five times: Bend the end of the tissue paper into an L shape.

Gather all five of the petals using your fingers to pinch the ends together: Wrap the ends with wire to keep them all in place. You can probably skip this step if you are brave, but the tissue paper slips really easily and it would be next to impossible to wrap the tape around it without having it secured: Use green tape to cover the ends.

I made two, one with green painters tape and one with green electrical tape. Both worked really well: So now you should have this crazy pinwheel looking flower.

I waited until the end to do this because I was afraid the ball shape would come out while I was putting everything together: Add the insides of some old fake flowers to the middle and they end up looking like this: Below you can see the difference in colour with the green electrical tape.

Personally, I preferred the colour of the painters tape, but either one works. If you are really resourceful, floral tape would probably be the best: They had little pods that filled up like balloons and burst open into these pretty flowers. It amazes me how similar they actually look to the tissue paper flowers!

These are so pretty!
